Copyediting Services

Academic, narrative, and technical copyediting

My services range from line edits focused on style and flow to developmental editing where I help writers plan the trajectory of their work. I focus on finding a work’s strengths and bringing out the writer’s intentions through clear, concise language. I can provide line editing, proofreading, and developmental or content editing depending on the project’s needs. I can also standardize manuscripts based on AP, MLA, and Chicago styles.

As a freelance journalist, I edited a column for Haywire Magazine and have edited for Paste Magazine. I’ve worked as a writing consultant at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan for two years, where I work with clients who are completing dissertations, theses, job materials, early-career research, and more. I hold an MA in English from the CUNY Graduate Center, and am a doctoral candidate in English literature, also at the Grad Center. I've taught composition and nonfiction writing classes at Queens College, CUNY.

Past editing projects have included:

  • Dissertations and MA theses (all fields)
  • Grant proposals
  • Cover letters and other job materials
  • Journalistic articles/public writing
  • Short fiction

I would love to edit for longer projects, such as games and novels. I’m also available to edit for publications. If you’re interested in my editing work, get in touch: eaprice.work@gmail.com.

Pricing

Short term projects (30 pages and under): $45/hour

I can proofread around 6-8 pages per hour, at the standard of one page = 250 words. For developmental/content editing, my rate is 5 pages per hour. However, my speed varies based on content, e.g. a page of a scientific article will take longer than a page of fiction.
If you’d like a quote, please send me a summary of your project and its length in pages.

Longer projects (books, whole dissertations, etc): TBD

Testimonials

I had the pleasure of working with Emily on multiple projects ranging from writing proposals to formal manuscripts, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Her feedback was constructive but also thoughtful, providing valuable insights that improved the overall quality of my writing. She was approachable, responsive, and genuinely passionate about the project's success.
Emily supported me immensely during my last year of graduate school. I met with her regularly to work on my dissertation as well as in my academic job applications. In each setting and for each task, I appreciated her questions, ideas/edits, and our conversations. I couldn’t have gone through the dissertation process as smoothly without Emily, and I believe that whatever writing you’ll work on with her, it will be a supportive learning experience.
Emily has consulted on my writing for over a year, providing feedback on dissertation chapter outlines and many chapter subsection drafts, and attending to both broader conceptual and organizational elements of my writing. She is always very present and attentive; I'm always impressed by how quickly she can get into my work and understand the vision and what I’m trying to write despite our being in very different fields.
